How to Lose Weight Without Dieting or Working Out

This article is inspired by a book titled : Lose Weight Without Dieting or Working out

Disclaimer : In this particular book, “dieting” is defined as substantially reducing food. So with that definition, this is not a fraud because in this particular book the author does not reduce the food amount

Intro : How I Found The “Bizarre” Method

As a middle aged father with 2 daughters, I rarely have time to exercise and watch what I eat since me and the wife needs to constantly watch our kids. Although I have been trying really hard to commit to exercise 2x/week especially learning Brazilian Jiujitsu, most of the times I was not able to come to class because of family responsibilities. Our BMI ( Body Mass Index ) is beyond average and we already feel the effects of the added weight because everyday chores become more exhausting than before. This is really bothering us.

And do not get me started on dieting. Since our priorities are to take care of the kids first, we often do not put much effort into our nutrition. Eating leftover pizzas and Chinese food is a norm for me and the wife. There is no one to blame though because we are both busy with other family tasks.  We tried hiring a cook and subscribe to a meal prep company but at the end of the day, we feel more comfortable eating junk food instead (Bad habit, do not replicate it).

One fine Saturday night after the kids are sleeping, I was fortunate enough to stumble upon a book written by JJ Smith, Lose Weight Without Dieting or Working out. I was able to learn about what “diet” really is and how it is possible to lose weight without dieting or working out. Sounds like a scam right? I thought so at first and that was my first encounter with this new idea.

Basic of Lose Weight Without Dieting or Working Out

The program is basically a Detox-Eat-Move (DEM) System. It has three phases and it claims to be effective in reducing body fat, especially from important areas such as the hips, belly, and thighs

Detox Phase

You will rejuvenate your body by avoiding the “Big 6 Foods” for 3 weeks straight. This includes caffeine, sugar, starches, meat, dairy, eggs, and alcohol. Naturally, this means you will be following a whole food, vegan diet for these 21 days.

The bare minimum that you should do is to take a fiber supplement and a greens-based drink. Other nutritional supplements are optional but highly recommended (But not necessary).

It is also a necessity to clean your digestive systems and take colon-cleansing herbs during this phase.

The detox phase is the most difficult part of the program but it is also the most rewarding because it usually resulted in a rapid fat loss. You will be forced and successful in reprograming your taste buds to crave natural healthy foods that will begin the process of making your body more healthy than ever

Eat Phase

In this phase, you achieve permanent weight loss by eating “clean and balanced foods”. Your diet will consist of 30 percent lean protein, 45 percent good carbs and 25 percent healthy fats. Red meat should be limited to two or three times a week.

The foods you will be eating are low in sugar and high in vitamins, minerals, fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. Every time you eat a carbohydrate food you must also consume protein to keep your blood sugar levels stable.

Reintroduce Phase

You will also start to reintroduce some of the foods you avoided during the detox phase. You are encouraged to keep a journal and determine which foods have negative effects on your weight loss efforts. This will allow you to customize the diet to suit your individual requirements.

Recommended Foods

Fruit, vegetables, salads, oatmeal, whole grain cereal, whole wheat bread, quinoa, brown rice, sweet potato, turkey, chicken, lean steak, pork tenderloin, salmon, tuna, eggs, tofu, tempeh, low-fat milk, soy milk, peanut butter, hemp seeds, almonds, flax crackers, rice cakes, extra-virgin olive oil, agave nectar, stevia, herb tea.

Exercise is Not a Requirement

Smith declares that strenuous exercise is not a requirement for losing weight. Rather if you want to eliminate excess body fat you should aim to do the more physical activity throughout the entire day.

She says that getting moving doesn’t require going to the gym. Activities like cleaning the house, grocery shopping, gardening, washing your car, yoga and dancing all burn calories.

Walking, in particular, is recommended and you can start with a brisk 15-minute walk at lunch. As your fitness improves you may wish to add strength training because it helps build lean muscle, which increases your metabolism.
