Kamarudeen Usman is one of the best wrestlers in MMA. Not only that he also has the most nicknames in MMA. Name such as “Marty”, “Kush”, and “U.S Man” is one of his many nicknames in the combat sports world. But he is most commonly referred as “Kamaru”. But if you think that Usman is just a hype job that got lucky, you are very wrong.

Born in Nigeria and moved to the USA when he was barely 6-years old. He joined wrestling early and excelled in it, gathering a great 53-3 record while wrestling in high school and qualifies at the prestigious NAIA national meet. He continued wrestling in the University of Nebraska and this is the seed of his excellence in professional combat sports.

At University of Nebraska, Usman captured the NCAA Division II All-American status for 3 years consecutively and was a major part in the first ever UNK team win in 2008. In 2010 he won the NCAA Division II  national title at 79kg (174lbs). In his college wrestling career he was introduced to future UFC fighter in Jake Ellenberger and T.J Hepburn.

Kamaru “Marty” Usman made his pro MMA debut back in 2012 and so far he only has 1 loss in his record. He went through the Ultimate Fighter season 21 in 2015 and won a contract in the UFC and the rest is history.

Usman uses his superior wrestling skills and improved striking to control the majority of his matches to win by decision. His strategy has given him victories againts the who’s who in MMA such as Demian Maia, Emil Meek, and Rafael Dos Anjos. But naturally this has given him some negative press as a decision machine, his strategy has led him to capture the UFC title from the then-dominant champion Tyron Woodley.
