My First Experience with Tattoos & Ways to Remove it
Before i have any tattoos, i was always amazed when looking at other people that have tattoos all over their body. Most of the time the tattoos are done well and the end result is very artistic.
I also wondered what those people have to went through when they got their tattoos for the first time. Does the pain of the needle outweighs the feeling of having a great tattoo? Or is it the opposite? Why does having tattoos made someone look cooler? (Most of the time)
Driven by those questions. I decided to get my first tattoo not long after. It was a good idea at the time because i continued getting new tattoos on both of my leg and arms. I have to be honest though, not all tattoos are amazing. Some tattoos looks “good” for a few weeks but after some time it looks dull and unoriginal. Because of that i started researching about methods to remove my tattoos. Which is the sole reason why i made this article. Here are some of the most popular methods of removing tattoos:
Home Tattoo Removal
Yes you read that right. You can remove tattoos at your own home using very basic ingredients and tools, this method is not often talked by tattoo parlors because they do not want to lose an opportunity to get your money by offering their tattoo removal methods. In my opinion you need to at the very least try to use these methods first before resorting to laser or cream methods.
I was initially skeptic just like most of you, but thankfully the vendor gave me a free sneak peek of the methods where i was able to see what the methods are (You can get the free report here)
I have used some of these removal methods and the results were satisfactory on my case. There is still some details that can be done better but considering how cheap and easy the methods are, i do not have anything to complain about. You can see my before & after photos of using the methods at the end of this post
Considering it only costs 37$. I strongly recommend you try this method first!
Here is a list of popular methods of diy tattoo removal:
Salabrasion is kind of similar to dermabrasion, uses water and granular salt besides an abrasive tools. Rather than pure brute force, the salty substance is meant to scrub and strip away the upper layers of skin.
After vigorously rubbing the area, an antibiotic ointment and sterile gauze bandage is applied and left for a few days before the entire process is repeated again. The salabrasion-affected area of dead skin should start to distinct from the healthy skin beneath, withdraw the tattoo pigment away at the same time – apparently.
However, same as dermabrasion, this method can be extremely painful, will leave a visible scar and could consequence in infection. There is also a big chance that the procedure won’t go deep enough to reach the tattoo ink.
Side effects: Burning, weeping pores, Pain, bruising, swelling, itching scabbing, bleeding, infection, discolouration and permanent scaring.
Acid tattoo removal
Similar to a salabrasion, some people are using acid to removes their tattoos, as it causes a reaction and removes the top layer of skin. However, most health professionals strongly not advise to using this method due to the harmful chemical properties of the acids being used. The most common acid tattoo removal procedures include:
TCA Peel – TCA stands for TriChloroacetic Acid, it will burn away outer layers of the skin. The amount of time this chemical peel is left on the skin will decide how many layers are burnt away. However, all a TCA peel will do is blench the skin and make it seem as though the tattoo has been removed, when in fact the skin has just been brightened.
Glycolic Acid Peel – This contains a compound of tartaric, lactic, glycolic and malic acid it can be administrated at home or by a dermatologist. The solution is meant to inflame the skin so your body can remove the tattoo ink, but it doesn’t get to the root of the problem. Therefore, it isn’t very effective and could cause scarring or pain. especially, a recent study showed that fluid lactic acid tattoo removal caused depigmentation and hypertrophic scars.
Acid injections – This invasive treatment involves taking a tattoo-like needle loaded with acid and inserting it into the patient’s body. This attempts to pull out ink and bring it to the surface. Scabs full of the tattoo colour arise and when they fall off, take the ink with them. But an expert said, Dr. Jeannette Young the head health officer in Queensland, Australia said: “My issue is that we have heard of some serious complications because of it. There have been other people who have experience infections, there are also been risks of transform the pigmentation of the skin.
Side effects from this method: Pain, burning, weeping sores, itching, bruising, swelling, scabbing, discolouration, cicatrization, infection and permanent scarring.
Tattoo removal creams
The prospect of a DIY and pain-free cream, which will remove your tattoo in next to no time, is one that appeals to some people. These creams usually contain chemicals including kojic acid, hydroquinone, TCA and alpha arbutin, which are meant to eliminate the tattoo from your skin And while they may little fade your tattoo, these removal creams cannot enter the layer of skin where ink is stored in the dermis.
Chemicals including kojic acid, hydroquinone, TCA and alpha arbutin are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), but their use in this drug is not regulated. Currently, no tattoo removal cream on the market has been approved by the FDA. This product can cause painful side effects, including reddish, rash, burning, peeling, permanent scarring, permanent skin discoloration, inflammation
Rejuvi tattoo removal
This method of tattoo removal borrows techniques from a few of the other flawed methods mentioned previously. It includes using an inorganic chemical removal developed by Rejuvi Laboratory California, which is applied in the same way as the original tattoo.
However, you only have to do a quick search online to uncover some horror stories about this type of removal. A story on the Daily Mail website shows how the treatment caused one man to suffer from unsightly scars and bumps on top of his tattoo, which is still clearly visible.
Bulldog tattoo on chest scared by rejuvi Some unfortunate Rejuvi patients has required steroid injections to cope with the redness and pain, while others enlisted the services of a lawyer due to horrible scaring and terrible results.
Side effects Pain, bruising, scabbing, swelling, itching, infection, discolouration, and permanent scarring.
Cryosurgery Tattoo Removal
Cryosurgery, also known as cryotherapy, is the process of removing unneeded layers of skin by frosting them of the process is not for the faint-hearted, though. it involves spraying on a frosting agent which cause frostbite and then sanding layers of skin off the affected area. Because it can be highly painful, cryosurgery tattoo removal is performed under local anesthetic.
Cryosurgery is one of the least popular types of tattoo removal method in the UK because it isn’t fully effective.
It also has a several of lack. These lacks include results vary and depend on how your body reacts Scarring is common. People with sensitive skin is not recommended from this treatment, Cryosurgery can destroy nearby tissue.
Because of its varied results and other lack, cryosurgery is not recommended for tattoo removal.
Side effects: discolouration , pain, scabbing, swelling, blistering, infection and permanent scarring.
Many ill-informed people in a hopeless attempt to remove their tattoos try to burn them off using a lighter or a blow torch. The plan is that the tattoo will change into a scar and scab off, it won’t work. Since tattoo ink is sitting deep within the dermis, a scar will form on top, but the ink will still be visible. If you’re stupid enough to try this method, you’ll risk infection, nerve damage, and scarring.

One of the methods to remove tattoos at home that has been rumored working is the use of things such as apricot scrub, aloe vera, salt, and even sandpaper has appeared a number of times. These home methods are ones that people will look into as they are cheap to go through than using other simple methods but do these methods really work or are they just theories?
Aloe vera is used a lot by people who have undergone laser tattoo removal due to the fact that the water-based solution will be able to bring out the broken pigments of ink on the body after the laser process to break it up. With removal, however, this method has been said to be very effective for those with newer ink.
The reason for this is that aloe vera is a water-based substance and therefore with a new tattoo will trap parts of the ink and make it harder to stay in the skin. There is sense behind this method however, it cannot be said that what will happen will actually work for the full piece, it may just fade away parts of the tattoo.
Apricot Scrub (and Salt)
Some suggestions have been said to go through using apricot scrub and salt as well (acts as an exfoliation). Salt would act as abrasion to get through the first layer of skin and then the apricot scrub would do the rest (some people actually vitamin old and mix aloe vera in as well to try and break up the pigments). Once again, the best something like this would be able to do is to go and fade parts of the unneeded ink, not the whole thing as effectively as you would like
